Posted Date: 05/06/26 (05:00 PM)

Dear Lummi Nation School Staff and Families,
We are proud to share that Matt Johnson, lead teacher in our Student Support Center, has been named a finalist for the Brown & Brown Excellence in Education Award!

The Brown & Brown Excellence in Education Award Program honors outstanding educators across Whatcom County who make a meaningful difference in the lives of their students and school communities. Being selected as a finalist is a significant recognition of Matt’s dedication, compassion, and impact.

In his role, Matt supports students through some of their most challenging moments while also guiding staff in creating supportive, responsive learning environments. His work reflects a deep commitment to student well-being and ensuring every student is treated with dignity and respect.

All finalists will be honored at a community ice cream social on May 27 from 4–7 p.m. at the Jansen Art Center in Lynden, where the winning teacher will be announced and awarded $5,000. The event is open to the public.

Please join us in congratulating Matt on this well-deserved recognition and celebrating the important work he does for our students and community.
